Holy Grail legend

The Holy Grail is a fictional object mentioned first time in the twelfth century in the poem „Perceval, the story of the Grail“ by Chrétien de Troyes. This object at this time (1180-1191) doesn’t have any mystical powers, which will later have. The Grail was described in this poem as a wide wooden bowl.

There is no reference of any sort about the Holy Grail in the Bible.

Robert de Boron in the time from 1191-1202 composed the story in which the Grail became the Holy Grail. According to his romance, the Holy Grail which was an object of the Last Supper in which Joseph of Arimathea collected the blood of Jesus Christ while he was crucified. The story then tells that he and other of his followers moved somewhere in Western Europe, probably Britain.

Mystical powers associated with the Holy Grail are: ability to prolong natural life, ability to heal wounds and ability to revive recently deceased.

The story about King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table, and their quest for the Holy Grail places this story event in the early sixth century. Western Roman empire has ceased to exist in 476 AD, and Barbarians were at the doors. Arthur Pendragon, son of Briton nobleman Uther Pendragon, led a small army of knights against Barbarians to unite tribes of British island. Later, the knights of the Round Table established the city of Camelot where the King Arthur, and his knights ruled. Sir Galahad was entrusted with a mission to find a Holy Grail, which he successfully found on the misty island of Avalon. The story about King Arthur is a fictional story or part of similar local legends that merged with a Roberts Boron's original story. This story then became an interest of local legends and many fictional writers.
Richard Wagner in his play Percival gave a significant meaning to the Holy Grail what impressed Hitler. Hitler later became obsessed with mystical items. He even established a special SS unit, which dealt with occult matters. Mystical items like Hofburg lance and other treasures were kept in the crypt of Nuremberg Saint Cathrine's cathedral until Americans defeated Germans in late April of 1945.

The Holy Grail is subject to the movie "Indiana Jones." According to the movie script, the Holy Grail was guarded by the knights Templar since they found it in the eleventh century in the Holy Land when they have done some digging under the Temple mount.
